DEBORAH WALKER RI

I work predominantly in watercolour from my studio gallery on a farm in the heart of rural Staffordshire.   My paintings are concerned with landscape, both in broad expanse and in close up detail and express both the dramatic and subtle ways in which light transforms a subject.  My approach to watercolour embraces both representational and abstract elements, and I try to push the character of the paint to extremes. A recurring theme in my work is painting water in watercolour as this provides a consistent challenge.

I was elected to membership of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour in 2011, elected to Council in 2014 and elected Friends Secretary in 2017. I was awarded the Turner Medal, the Antony J Lester Art Critic Award and the Escoda  Barcelona Award at the RI Annual Exhibition in 2015. I was awarded The Charles Pears Award at the Royal Society of Marine Artists Annual Exhibition in 2013 and was elected Associate Member of the RSMA in 2016.

I exhibit widely in galleries throughout Britain.
